Lesson Three – Container Volumes

This numeracy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to estimate, measure and compare the number of objects that can fill different containers that might be used in the classroom.
The class can identify and explain how to use counting skills to measure and compare the volume of different sized and shaped containers to see how many marbles that each object might hold.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to estimate, measure and compare the number of objects that can fill different containers that might be used in the classroom
Activities in this teaching pack include a template to estimate and record numbers of marbles that can fill different sized containers and a worksheet to record sets of objects that can and cannot fill other volumes in objects around the classroom.
The interactive presentation gets the children to identify and explain how to compare the volume of pairs of containers using non-standard measurements.
This lesson is part of a numeracy scheme of work to get the children to practise and model different ways of measuring and comparing the length, height, volume, capacity and mass of different objects by using counting skills. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
