Lesson One – Story Clues

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify, describe and compare some of the different characters that can feature in a range of traditional stories and explore the spelling of words beginning with the /k/ phoneme.
The class can model how to build a set of different words with the initial sound for the letter k to use when describing a character from a traditional story.

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of cards to identify and build a range of different cvc words that begin with the letter /k/ phoneme sound and a worksheet to record where the letter /k/ can be found in a group of different letters from the alphabet.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the characters that can feature in traditional stories and identify words beginning with /k/.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to role-play different traditional stories using drama and speaking and listening skills and match initial phonemes in cvc words to letters of the alphabet. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
