Mini-beasts

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate and record information about some of the insects and other creatures that live in the school grounds. The class list and define vocabulary words that can be used to describe each special type of mini-beast.

Butterflies
Investigate, describe and compare some of the different butterflies that can be found living in the school grounds

School Safari
Identify and compare some of the different animals that live in the school grounds and make comparisons between animals that live in other habitats

Holiday Shirts
Produce items of clothing to wear on a holiday to a particular location by selecting and using shapes to represent different places

Robot Movements
Explain and model how to control the direction and position of a robot when moving about the classroom to perform different functions

Jack and the Beanstalk
Explore, role-play and change the sequence of narrative events that occur in a traditional story and select and match cvc words with the same final phoneme sounds

Summer Picnic
Select, identify and prepare different types of foods for a picnic including sandwiches and fruit juice drinks by compiling shopping lists for a class outing
