This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate, describe and classify the appearance and function of different types of clothing made from a range of materials. The class can list some of the special vocabulary that can used to sort clothing into matching groups.

Footwear
Investigate, compare and test some of materials that can be used to make different types of footwear that are used for a range of functions

Keeping Dry
Investigate and test some of the properties of different materials that can be used for clothing to provide protection from the rain

T-shirts
Select and combine a range of different shapes, colours and patterns that can be used to design and print a t-shirt for a specific function or event

Identify the location and function of different objects used in the classroom and explore how to formulate rules to manage the classroom safely

Shape Patterns
Identify, describe and compare the sequences of geometric shapes that have been used to create a range of different patterns

Supermarkets
Read and produce labels to identify and describe items that can be sold in different shops and match initial sounds of words to the correct letters of the alphabet

Investigate and illustrate some of the special ways that members of a family can use to support each other in different events and experiences
