Lesson Two – Caterpillars

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate how to produce a model of a mini-beast to explore some of the different creatures that can be found living in special areas in the school grounds.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to describe shapes, colours and patterns seen on different caterpillars and worksheets to locate and label the head, body, antennae, legs and wings of some different insects that could be found living in a garden.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to produce a model of a mini-beast to explore some of the different creatures that live in the school grounds.
This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to Investigate, describe and compare some of the different butterflies that can be found living in a garden area in the school grounds. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
