Lesson Three – Flower Petals

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate and practise some of the different ways that can be used to print petal shapes to represent a flower using a range of art tools and media.
The class can explain and model how to combine a selection of different shapes when producing the print of a flower that might be seen in a family garden during the spring season.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the colours and shapes that can be seen in different flowers, a vocabulary word bank to select special vocabulary words to label pictures of printed flower petals and a template to record a description of a flower using vocabulary for shapes and colours.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and practise some different ways of printing petal shapes using a range of art tools and media.
This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and print patterns and shapes to reflect flowers that can grow in family gardens during the spring. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
